Meet the Staff: Melissa John

Moving Mobile Health Forward

The staff made me feel welcome and at ease. They were pleasant and professional in carrying out their duties.

For the eleventh edition of Meet the Staff, we introduce you to Melissa John, the Medical Assistant Supervisor at Mobile Health’s Manhattan office.

First, a hearty congratulations to Melissa, as she just returned from maternity leave after giving birth to her first child. Her son, Ethan, is a healthy 5 month boy who, to the delight of both Ethan & Melissa, dominates her spare time.

Melissa was born in Trinidad and has lived in New York for the last 15 years. Her parents and her three siblings still live in Trinidad and she misses them constantly.

Melissa has a passion for helping those in need, which led to the medical industry. She sees the modern healthcare system as evolving in the correct direction, but notes that challenges still exist in modern healthcare – particularly with regard to providing a system of universal accessibility and affordability. Tackling this challenge and providing medical services to patients has been, and will be, a long-term pursuit for Melissa.

In 2010, after receiving her Medical Assistant certification, Melissa began working at Mobile Health in Brooklyn. Excelling at that position, she moved on to be the supervisor of the Medical Assistants in Manhattan, a job to which she dedicates herself.

Melissa thrives on having her staff operate efficiently and assuring that patients receive exactly what they need when they walk into Mobile Health’s doors. She points to loving her co-workers, from reception workers to the doctors, and her enjoyment of interacting with patients as how she receives the most satisfaction from her job at Mobile Health.

Melissa plans to further that pursuit by seeking further education. She will, in the future, either pursue a Nursing degree or study to become a Physician’s Assistant.

In the meantime, though, all of Melissa’s time is dedicated to working at Mobile Health in Manhattan or hanging out with her son – and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
